Spring Newsletter: Year 3/4

Welcome back to school! I hope you had an enjoyable holiday! I will be covering Year 3/4 while Miss Webster is on maternity leave. I am very much looking forward to teaching the children until Miss Webster’s return.

Topics

Our topics this term are Robot Rampage and Gods and Gladiators.

Robot Rampage has a Design and Technology focus and teaches the children about a range of different mechanisms and how these can be powered using electricity and other forces. At the heart of this project, the children learn how to write instructions for powering different mechanisms and learn additional skills in persuasion and letter writing.

The topic Gods and Gladiators has a history focus and teaches the children about the significance of the Romans, who they were, where they came from and their impact on the Celt population of Wales and Britain.  At the heart of this project, the children learn how to write narrative stories with an historical setting and develop additional skills in recount and report writing.

Class reminders

PE is on Tuesday, please remember to bring kit for indoors and outdoors as we’ll try and get outside as much as possible!

Reading books need to be brought to school every day and taken home at the end of each day. Reading is one of the best things you can do at home, so make sure you read to someone regularly!

Spelling and times tables tests are on Friday mornings, you will have a copy of your spelling words sent home this week.

Homework

Our class mascot Babs, will continue to be sent home with a child on Wednesday to be returned on Monday. The homework must be completed within a week of having Babs. I have very much enjoyed finding out about Babs’ adventures to date and I can’t wait to see what Babs experiences on her travels this term!

Please feel free to speak to me any afternoon after the children have been dismissed, if you should have any questions or concerns, or just want a chat about your child’s progress!

Thank you,

Miss New
